Porcelain Crowns

Also called caps, porcelain crowns offered at our Monmouth County cosmetic dentistry practice are durable ceramic restorations that completely cover individual teeth to conceal cracked, decayed, discolored, injured, or chipped teeth. Porcelain crowns not only enhance the appearance of the teeth, but also provide added support to structurally deficient teeth.

Applying Porcelain Crowns

In order to apply porcelain crowns, Dr. Peter Ciampi first removes any decay and reduces the size of the tooth to accommodate the crown. Then, an impression of the tooth is taken and a temporary crown is placed over the tooth body while the porcelain crown is being crafted. When the new porcelain crown is ready, Dr. Ciampi fits the crown over the top of the tooth and cements it securely into place. With proper care, your new crown should remain stain-free and last long into the future.

Porcelain Crowns vs. Porcelain Veneers

Because porcelain crowns are created using the finest porcelain materials, the results are incredibly natural. Ultimately, crowns can enhance the overall appearance of your smile, improve the health of your mouth and bite, and strengthen tooth structure. If you are interested in achieving strictly cosmetic benefits from porcelain crowns you may want to explore porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers offer the same cosmetic benefits as porcelain crowns; however, they are in some cases more versatile, and require less of the tooth body to be removed before placement.
